The Girona Region

We looked all around the world for the perfect location and we are sure we have found it. The Province of Girona is in Catalonia, in the north east of Spain. This means there is year round sunshine with very few rainy days. In fact, if it does rain it is usually in the late afternoon, when training for the day is usually completed.

Mas Pelegri is set in the midst of the beautiful Catalan countryside, with views of the Pyrenees and the Volcanic National Park. The scenery is also fantastic, this is an area of exceptional natural beauty, where 60% of the land is still forested. Around every corner you seem to come across another stunning vista. The famous coves and beaches of the Costa Brava are only 45 minutes drive away, with Barcelona only just over 1 hours drive to the south, the French border with aceess to French Catalunya only 45 mins drive north and the ski resorts of the Pyrenees from only 1 hour away. Airport access is very easy with Girona only 25 mins, Perpignan 45 mins and Barcelona airport 1 hour 20 mins drive away.

As well as having beautifully warm weather, this area has an immense wealth of history, from the prehistoric caves at Serinya, to the ancient Greek and Roman cities preserved at Empuries, to the monasteries, churches and castles that litter the region. This area is also famous for being Dalí's homeland, with his castle at Pubol, his Teatre-Museu in Figueres and his house, the Casa Museu Dalí, in Port Lligat, near Cadaqués. In Barcelona, only 60 minutes away, you can also experience the architecture of Gaudí and the works of Picasso and Miro, who all made Barcelona their home for many years. Girona itself has a wealth of architecture and artistic viewings, with its Cathedral, Romanesque churches, ancient bath house and museums. While Besalú has its magnificent 11th-century bridge and boasts two beautiful Romanesque churches. Every town in this region has something to offer the visitor, making this area such a pleasure to visit. In fact the Girona province is such an exceptional area, we feel that words just do not do it justice. It is definitely a jewel that should not be missed.

This area has fantastic sporting possibilities. From the cycling point of view, there are the fantastic network of good quality quiet roads and off-road trails, which wind across the Mediterranean lowlands, then up through the wonderful volcanoes of the Garrrotxa, before finally reaching the Pyrenees. The foothills of the Pyrenees are within an hours ride of the Masia, giving one all sorts of possible training rides depending on ones fitness and ones training schedule. So it is of no surprise that this area is a cycling heartland, with many pro cyclists and mountain bikers making this their base year round, including a 7-time tour winner.

There are amazing swimming opportunites, a myriad of picturesque wooded off road trails for walking, horse riding and running, including the GR1 and GR2 trails. There is also a beautiful golf course only 15 mins drive away. Please see our activities page for all the activities on offer.
