This region hosts an amazing array of festivals, from the Crespia honey festival, the Girona flower festival (14th - 22nd May, 2011), the Besalu medieval festival (2nd, 3rd and 4th September, 2011), the Fontacorbeta snail festival, the Figueres calcot festival (a calcot is a cross between a spring onion and a leek and is grilled over a fire pit and eaten with a tangy tomato and garlic sauce), the garlic festival, the horse festival, the olive oil festival, the Gegants. It seems almost every weekend they are celebrating.

There are also an array of sporting events, including the Spainish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya motor racing circuit only 45 mins drive away. the Rally Catalunya, the Tour of Catalunya (cycling), the Catalunyan Triathlon Championships, cyclotourist events, running races, open water swimming races, and rowing and kayaking regattas.
